Amos 3:7
Prophecy

What is a biblical prophecy?

Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

Amos 3:7

Prophecy is God telling us what he has done, is doing, will do. All is contained with in the Scriptures in some form or fashion whether it is future history woven into the accounts of past history, in the form of similitudes, or given in clear concise language.

Hosea 12:10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

God is not soothsaying or prognosticating not telling what he sees in the future. Prophecy is concerned with what God is going to make happen. History is not predestinated nor complete and known; it is running in real time controlled and guided by God to perform his will and purpose. He has predetermined certain events from the foundation of the world, but most prophecy is the product of God’s judgments and dealings with men according to their free will thoughts, desires, and works: mostly evil unfortunately.
