What exactly happened to the waters above the firmament?
I can only surmise.
Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The universe is surrounded by water, the deep. It is where the floodwaters came from.
Genesis 8:2 KV The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
The original creation Genesis 1:1 was not separated from God; He dwelt within his creation and thus shall it be at the end with the new earth and heaven. We will go full circle.
The restored creation (the six days) left it buried under the waters of the deep separating the third heaven, God, from us. That is what baptism is a picture of, being dead, buried under the deep, and being resurrected up through the water to be in fellowship with God.
Job 38:30 The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
Revelation 4:6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
Revelation 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
Back to: Questions
Where are the waters from above the firmament. Well they’re still there Genesis chapter 8 verse 2. The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped and the rain from heaven was restrained so the windows were stopped because he wanted the rain to be restrained so they’re still there, easy answer it is not a barrier of water that has separated us from God but the rebellion of man’s mind or his heart that has separated us from God fix that problem and God will be here and he is here but we’re just not listening to him
Would Paul have had to go through the Deep to reach the third heaven? If so then the waters physically separate us from it.
You are conflating the physical and the spiritual.
Or: could it be a picture of what we as Christians need to be, washed in the water of the word, baptized by the holy Ghost, and washed in the blood, that is true baptism
Although all this may be true and a topic for another discussion, it does not answer the question of where the water for the flood came from and where it went. The Great Deep above creation separating us from God does.
If it is there, we are buried under it and must come up through the water to a newness of life to be with God.
